Stephen on the Southern Enduro Riders Association & if its still as fun as ever:

I've dedicated over 20 years to the Sera Enduro’s and I just became a Sera Life Time Member in 2007. It has only been within the last 5 years that we have followed the Sera Hare Scrambles also.  I really enjoy the true time-keeping Enduro’s because that’s where it all began with my father & me.  Later, when I was about 15 years old I started riding on a row with Johnny Kemp and Dwight Rudder, they taught me lots of tricks I know about time keeping and so much more. I owe a lot to them. But racing the Sera Hare Scrambles against some of the South’s fastest is quiet a rush. So it is hard to pick between the two series.

I find myself having more fun than ever in Sera because Brennen and Cameron are racing too. It won't be long before they are out there with me on the adult’s course just like my dad and I raced together for years.  Teaching Carolyn to ride and watching her is fun for all us boys. She’s a great sport and I’m glad to see her riding.  We race in the best series around. I have raced all over this country in several different series but I truly have the most fun racing the Gulf Coast region.

On running the #1 plate in the Hare Scramble series:

It is such an honor to race with the #1 plate on my bike.  When I lost the championship in 2006, I had a reality check and dedicated myself to a practice and training program with hope of winning again in 2007.

On Suzuki vs. GasGas & if going to 4-stroke:

The Gas Gas was a great bike as is the Suzuki.  The Suzuki is a bit faster and a little easier to work on.  When the 2 strokes faze out I guess I’ll have to convert to the thumps.

On the SERA young guns:

I have lots of respect for the up and coming racers.  These guys are putting down some really fast times, Spencer Cook and Dustin Stevens even passing me at the Wiggins HS.  Keep up the good work.

On the '08 Perry Mountain 24-Hour Challenge:

The 24-Hour was lots of fun this year.  I went to the race with the intention of having fun and to not over do it this year like I did last year.

Where he'll be in 10 years:

In ten years I plan to be racing off road with my family and enjoying the outdoors.  As a family, we hope to explore out west.

Stephen's wife Carolyn on keeping up with the boys and her own stuff (kids committee, pictures, videos, racing, etc.):

Seeing friends that I grew up with can be an eye opener. On the weekends, the wife is here, the husband is there, one kid over there, and the other somewhere else. It is important to me to have my family together in a wholesome environment with other families doing the same thing throughout the year (one year it was 47 races). Yes, the traveling and the packing and unpacking and going non-stop constantly can be tiresome, and then of course there is the cost of everything. It can get overwhelming sometimes. But Stephen, our boys and myself have made good friends and a lot of good memories that will always stay with us. I am so proud of all three of them and all of their accomplishments.

Being involved with the Sera Kid’s races has brought a lot of joy to me over the last 5 years. It is a lot of responsibility but Sera has the best pack of kids around and they make it easy to want to jump up and join in with the help.

On finding SERA pictures and videos:

www.boneyard.tv  It’s a place where anyone can upload his or her own race photos or videos. It’s kind of like a YouTube for dirt bikers. Just look for reedracing490 on there and you’ll find something fun to watch.

On the off-weekends:

We don’t get to relax and lay around a lot so we love going to the beach when we can. We are usually Destin bound when not at the races.

On her first race at Cycleland:

That was a lot of fun! I think the first thing I did when I got home was emailed Suzy Moody and told her that I finally braved it. She was so proud of me and offered a lot of encouraging words. She’s a great woman and I have so much respect for her along with the other women in Sera, especially after racing once and seeing first hand what all the racers go through. Hopefully next year the Powder Puff class that I am trying to inculcate will work out in Sera and we can get a lot more women in the woods racing!

Sons Brennen and Cameron on the SERA weekends:

Cameron – “I love going to the races and riding my dirt bike with my best friends Dayton and Steve.”
Brennen – “Yes, I am glad to be a part of Sera since I was 4 years old. I thank all of the people who work very hard so that we can race.”

On other interests:

Cameron – “Skateboarding, BMX, Swimming and Riding the Zip-Line.”
Brennen – “I read a lot, but I also like the PS2, Lego’s, Base Ball and I run Track for School.”

On girlfriends:

Cameron – “Some.”
Brennen – “She used to be green but now she’s yellow, and 85.”

On school and grades:

Cameron – “3rd grade, Honor Roll.”
Brennen – “Fixing to start 6th Junior High, Honor Roll.”

If they'll be faster than Dad one day:

Cameron – “Ohh yeah!”
Brennen- “I don’t know, he’s pretty fast Mr. Lucas. I sure hope so!”
