March '10 Interview with Louisiana's Jason Reine

Louisiana's Jason Reine (KTM) is coming off a great season in '09 where he won the LA Cross-Country Series XC2 Lites title and finished 2nd overall.  Jason has won several SERA enduro A class championships, the Junior class back in '88, helped his Perry Mountain 24-Hr Challenge team win the 250 Expert class in '07, etc.  Reine has been a self-employed stucco contractor with Reine's Plastering for 13 years.  We took a minute to learn a little more about him:

How’s the family?  Do we have a women’s world champion in the making?
The family is good.  We, like you, have a new baby girl and the boys are really in love with her.  Hopefully Lily and Raelan will be racing together in about three years! [Lily is staff members Lucas & Jenny Comeaux's new baby girl]

Reine's proudest racing achievements:
2nd Overall in the '09 LACC Series
10th Overall for the year in SERA Enduros
Winning the 250A class and 7th overall at the Perry Mntn 24Hr Challenge

Reine worked Round 1 of the '10 LACC Series and had a bit of bad luck at Round 2:

I got tangled up with a lapper and the radiator got ripped off my bike as a result.  But I didn't let that stop the fun.  I hopped on my wife's TTR and managed to put in a few more laps, which really made me appreciate suspension!  As far as playing catch up, that's the story of my life, especially in enduros!  I know there's little room for mistakes now, and I will be more focused.  You know what they say, "When the going gets tough, the tough get going!".  Anyway, I am out there for points, but more than that, I'm out there for fun!

His son Ryan won the Beginner PeeWee class at Round 1 of the 2010 LACC Series (Cypress Creek MX) - talk about one proud Poppa.

Goal for this season?
My goal for this season is OVERALL in LACC!  Whether or not I get it, I know I'll have plenty of fun trying!  I also plan on racing SERA enduros this year.

The younger days:

I played basketball and football in high school.  My basketball coach gave me an ultimatum, either basketball or racing- not both.  Guess he didn't think I'd actually pick racing, because as I was walking out, (for good this time), he tried to get me to reconsider and I haven't looked back since.  I have been racing since I was about 12.  I come from a whole family of racers, so it was only natural for me to follow in their footsteps and I have loved it every step of the way.

Always a Lites bike?
When you're 140 lbs. yes.

I probably will try the stump jump again.  It is definitely harder than it looks.  I think I could definitely do it on a big bike, but don't want to risk tearing up a big bike.  As far as an LACC Pitbike race, let's do it on Sat. and see what happens!  Just remember, I did win the Lafayette Arenacross Pitbike race!  I even beat the chicken on a tricked-out fast 110, and me on a stock 110.  My wife gave me grief about not being able to walk a wheelie on it without dragging my feet, so I have since learned how to do it without dragging my feet!  I love messing around on my pitbike almost as much as I love racing!  I asked Russell Bobbit what he did to train everyday and he told me he rides at least 30 miles a day.  I told him I rode my pitbike everyday, and he laughed telling me to enter a pitbike race.  So, Lucas, bring it on!  Honestly, stump jumps, hill climbs, "Big Cut", extreme obstacles, and night riding...all sound like a great recipe for FUN!

Your favorite place to ride? (anywhere in the world)

I'm really happy anywhere I'm riding, but I do love riding the moguls at Fort Polk! [featured in popular YouTube video here - over 7,000 views]

The burning question everyone wants to know…how many cigarettes a day?

I can't tell you that!  That's confidential and if I let everyone in on it, they just might want to take up smoking!

What was the last concert you attended?

Godsmack, in New Orleans with my wife.  That was before kids...now it's more like Sesame Street Live!

Favorites?

Food-anything my wife cooks

Drink-coke

Music-Rock

Movie-Chicago(I know, corny huh?  I love musicals!  Who'd thunk it?!

First few things you’d buy if you won the powerball?

A bus, a trailer, and five KTM's!

Anyone or any companies/sponsors you want to thank?

I first need to give it up to the Man upstairs for letting me do what I love and keeping us safe while at it.  I'd like to thank my family for loving the sport as much as I do, and I'd like to thank Reine's Cycle, Acadian Racing, Moose, Enduro Engineering, EVS, FMF, Cycle Gear, and all my racing friends who are like family also.

Thanks and Good Luck!
