We'll be inside the main gates of the
LA State Penitentiary. Leave your guns, machetes, and
other weapons at home. Small kitchen knives in your
camper are OK. No alcohol allowed.
You and your children must STAY in the designated
camping area or on the race
course...don't
go around the actual prison camps. We WANT to be invited
back so please follow the specific campground rules for this
very unique venue. There will be a church service Sat.
6pm, a bus will pick up those interested in the LACC
campground at 5:45.

Rodeo update:
We were greeted today with a nice big
campground area with grass cut, several
port-o-lets and trash cans spread out, a
big lake off in the distance, etc.
The trails are looking good and
everything in the woods will be NICE.
The portions of the course out in the
sun will be hard packed so you'll
probably want to go with a
soft/intermediate tire.
The "Little Kids" loop is nice and easy
and the kids stay within site pretty
much the whole time. The practice
course and Big Kids/Women's course is
really fun with some serious elevation
changes.
The practice course is long compared to
normal and you'll get to do an optional
hillclimb!
Make sure to leave early and give
yourself plenty
of time to
get through the main gates because there
is another function taking place at the
prison Sat.
We've already added some good fresh
single track here and there off the main
dozer'd path and will be adding more.
The start grass track will be run every
lap and will be good for the spectators
to watch. BASIC layout of
everything below, we'll try to add
another optional hillclimb if possible.
Riding tip: get your speed up BEFORE the
BASE of a steep hill...then your
momentum will carry you up!
Good AT&T signal here - three 3G bars.
Once again THANKS to the Van Way crew
and Warden Cain!
Since we'll be away from the computer
this Friday prep'ing for LACC Round 3
(The Angola Bike Rodeo) here's an early
weekly flashback for you.
1989...Rick Johnson...250cc USGP at
Unadilla
RJ: "...A lot of guys paced
themselves and I just went out with the
attitude, because I trained that way,
‘go 100% the whole time and while you’re
pushing 100% find areas on the track
where you can relax your hands, relax
your body, and take a couple of
breaths.' So I would use the jumps
and the neutral spots on the downhills
or the uphills when you're in transition
from gassing to braking to relax..."
As usual the W models will wait a year
or so before getting the updated body
work.
The new 450 is no longer "limited
edition".
Pictures of the XC
and W models can be found

Kailub Russell interview on RacerX by
Jason Weigandt
HERE.
"...I could tell my upper body was
getting weak toward the last lap.
So I need to pick it up on my end with
weights. I feel like cardio wise I’m
solid though and can maintain the pace
throughout the race..."

Now that we've had
the new 2012 Gas Gas XC 300 for a couple
weeks we've spent enough time on it to
be able to tell you it is SWEET!
Strong motor, more ground clearance,
better overall feel/ergonomics,
easy-to-remove plastic rear subframe,
new shock linkage, etc. Bike comes
standard with Ohlins shock, 48mm
Marzocchi forks, Renthal bars, Magura
hydraulic clutch, nice quality
sprockets/chain, Nissin brakes, etc.
The bike feels great at race pace on
faster/rougher hare scramble style
trails and of course as usual turns
great through the tight stuff.
For those of you who are planning on
attending Round 3 of the LACC Series
this weekend, we'll have the new '12 GG
XC300 on display near the registration
area so you can get a close up look for
yourself!
